2018 Schools Road Safety Calendar

Timely Tips for all in the 2018 Schools Road Safety calendar

Young artists with an understanding of road safety from Glenburnie and McDonald Park Primary Schools will have their artwork featured in a 2018 calendar. The calendar featuring their original art work is bound to appear in homes, offices, their school, libraries, community centres throughout 2018. Many a fridge in their homes and school staff rooms are expected to be decked out with the catchy and creative 2018 edition.

Earlier this year, students responded with enthusiasm and imagination to the invitation extended by the Mount Gambier and District Road Safety Group to get involved in the UN Decade of Road Safety by providing material for the 2018 road safety calendar.

Students and teachers from both schools collaborated with the local road safety group and the LCLGA’s Regional Road Safety Officer that resulted in numerous entries. The final selections were then linked with a road safety issue such as driving distracted or speeding.

David Burt, Chair of the Mount Gambier and District road safety group said “This is the third year we have worked with local schools to prepare a road safety calendar. “We know we have taken another step forward with the calendar’s short and sharp road safety tips to take home and to heart.” “Engaging with schools and students has not only been fun, a real delight but more importantly, their colorful messages should reach into homes and families to help keep them all safe and together.” The calendar provides another wonderful example of community working together to promote a safer road environment.

Members of the local road safety group, SAPOL, the SA Metropolitan Fire Service, Councils and the Limestone Coast LGA distributed the calendars to both schools on Monday, 11th December. Each student artist was presented with a certificate that featured their own artwork from members of the Mount Gambier and District Road Safety Group.

Rob Forgan, Regional Community Road Safety Officer with the Limestone Coast LGA said "The standard of entries was once again high and it was a difficult task to select the images with their personalised messages from the many put forward.” “We hope this can be continued in the future and involve more schools not just in Mount Gambier but in the Limestone Coast.” If individuals or organisations would be interested in sponsoring the calendar into the future please contact below.
